Pedrosa sets the pace

 at Valencia

Dani Pedrosa set the pace as a dry afternoon on the second day of post-season testing at Valencia allowed Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith to make their premier class debuts.

For Valentino Rossi and Yamaha, however, the wait for dry weather running continues.

The team travelled overnight to Aragon in a bid to give the Italian maximum seat time, only for difficult conditions to make the day an effective write-off.

2012 champion Jorge Lorenzo also suffered a minor fall at turn 16, from which both he and his bike emerged unscathed.

The second day at Vale ... Read more »

Bute bites back

 to win NABF title

Lucian Bute rebounded from his first defeat by thumping out a unanimous win over Russian Denis Grachev to take the minor NABF light heavyweight title.

The result should set up a rematch with the 35-year-old British fighter in 2013.

The Bell Centre crowd of 10,122 watched a war of attrition for the majority of the bout as Bute stayed cautious for 11 rounds and avoided direct contact from the heavy-hitting Grachev.

The 30-year-old Russian was the slightly more imposing of the two as he repeatedly backed his opponent up against the ropes and fired shots to his head and body.

But Bute never looked out of control, and queries ... Read more »

WADA won't appeal

 USADA Lance

Armstrong ruling

The World Anti-Doping Agency has confirmed they will not appeal against the United States Anti-Doping Agency's sanctions against Lance Armstrong.

USADA recommend that all Armstrong's results from 1 August, 1998 were expunged from the record books, including his seven consecutive Tour de France `wins` from 1999 to 2005, as well as handing the 41-year-old a life ban from cycling.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) last week ratified the sanctions imposed by USADA, who concluded Armstrong and his United States Postal Service team ran "the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen".

But while the UCI did highlight some cri ... Read more »
