Guardiola wants Chelsea job
Pep Guardiola is ready to return to football management - and he wants to take over at Chelsea. The Daily Mail reports that the former Barcelona boss -
who is currently enjoying a sabbatical year in New York with his family
- has told his family and friends that he "sees his future at Stamford
Bridge".
Guardiola, who won three league titles and two Champions League
crowns with Barca, reportedly rejected the job at the end of last season
after leaving the Catalan giants, and Roberto di Matteo was installed
as permanent boss on a two-year deal.
But it seems the Italian may not get a chance to see out that
contract as the most in-demand manager in the game hovers behind him; "
Guardiola could have the pick of Europe's top clubs but has made it
known to his close circle of advisers that Chelsea is his preferred
choice," the paper reports.
Several papers lead with Roberto Mancini's admission that his team are simply not good enough to win the Champions League yet.
"I don't think we're ready to win the Champions League," he says in
the Times. "If we say we're ready to win it we're not honest... Chelsea
tried for 10 years to win it. They were probably the best team in Europe
for ten years and they won it probably when they didn't deserve to. n the day's transfer news, the Daily Mirror claims that Fulham and
Southampton are to fight it out for the £2 million signature of
Millwall's midfield star Liam Trotter. The same paper also reports that
Stoke City striker Cameron Jerome is set to go out on loan to Leeds.
The Sun claims that William Gallas will be made to sweat over a new
contract at Spurs, and that Newcastle have failed in their attempts to
line up a deal for River Plate defender German Pezella.
And finally, the sick chants directed at Arsenal manager Arsene
Wenger on Saturday earn a lengthy report in the Daily Mail beneath the
headline, "Why does he have to put up with such vile abuse?
